I love it that Jay Rosen actually does this instead of just thinking it. Nothing new here. Move along now. Of course, if value is defined as “something new,” most academics would be out of business, but luckily, it’s all in how you think about the familiar, thus making it unfamiliar and apt to fit an unexpected future. What Rosen tweeted may not sound surprising after the fact, but thinking of it at all in a timely fashion is the point. Great ideas do tend to sound mundane after the fact. Common sense: not that common.
