Techsophist
Like most people on the tenure-track, I have a lot of different writing projects to juggle, and most of them really need to get done this summer before teaching starts up again August 25. Rebecca Moore Howard sent a tweet about this entry from Lifehack on Time Striping. The entry mentions how it works well in Office, but not so well in OpenOffice, but I wondered why on earth reinvent a PIM using string, wire, and playing cards when I already use and automatically back up iCal. My existing calendars for research, teaching, and service make the stripes and I set a cutoff for the end of the summer. If this works well, I can regroup then and integrate my teaching schedule and other semester-centric events. One thing I didn’t put in--blogging. What color should it be? I never can decide.
On a side note, Twitter has been amusing and useful. I’m still working out what all it is good at, but metaphorically it is like snatches of hallway chat with a really big hallway full of smart people from all over. Not that serious, but could be when needed. Sometimes seriousness is overrated. For example, Clay Spinuzzi’s CCCC Theming Contest, which accepted entries mainly by Twitter. I’m one of the runners-up--yea!
